Doc Corkle
Doc Corkle(1952)
Doc Corkle is a short-lived American sitcom that aired on NBC in October 1952. The show followed a small-town doctor navigating life and work in his community. Despite its promising premise, Doc Corkle failed to gain traction with audiences and sponsors alike. Reynolds Metals, the program's primary backer, grew so dissatisfied with the ratings and reception that the network pulled the plug after just three weeks on air. The show's brief run—from October 5 to October 19—made it one of television's earliest casualties during the medium's experimental early years. NBC quickly replaced Doc Corkle with Mr. Peepers, which would go on to become a more successful sitcom. Today, Doc Corkle remains a footnote in television history, remembered chiefly for its rapid cancellation and the competitive pressures facing sponsors and networks in 1950s broadcasting.
