About This Very Thing is a Russian series following Mitya, a newly qualified psychologist-sexologist who returns to his conservative hometown of Ozernoe after eight years studying in St. Petersburg. The village expected him to become a surgeon or dentist—someone whose work they could understand and respect. Instead, Mitya arrives with a degree in sexual psychology, a specialty the locals view with suspicion and ridicule. His own father threatens to disown him. But Mitya is determined to help his community confront generations of silence, myth and prejudice around sexuality. As he attempts to establish himself in the local hospital, he must navigate deep-rooted conservatism while proving the value of his unconventional expertise to people who have never discussed such matters openly.
