Dandelion Dead is a dramatisation of the true story of Major Herbert Rowse Armstrong, a Welsh solicitor and magistrate's clerk who poisoned his domineering wife, Catherine, with arsenic in 1921. Arrested and charged with murder, Armstrong also faced accusations of attempting to poison a business rival, Oswald Martin, with the same substance. At trial, Armstrong claimed he'd purchased the arsenic merely to kill dandelions on his lawn—a defence that failed to convince the jury. Convicted of murder, he was executed in 1922, becoming one of Britain's most notorious poisoning cases. The series examines the dark secrets lurking beneath the respectable surface of a small Welsh town and the calculated crime that shocked the nation.
