Popstar to Operastar(2010)

Popstar to Operastar is a British singing competition that challenges contemporary pop stars to master opera. The ITV series, which premiered in January 2010, pairs pop performers with opera mentors Rolando Villazón and Katherine Jenkins, who guide them through classical repertoire in live performances. A panel of judges—initially including Meat Loaf and Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen—critiqued their transformations. From series two onward, Simon Callow and Vanessa-Mae replaced the original judges. Alan Titchmarsh and Myleene Klass hosted the show, which also aired on TV3 Ireland. The competition tested whether pop artists could genuinely transition to opera's demanding vocal and stylistic demands. Darius Campbell won the first series, with Joe McElderry claiming victory in the second season.
