Meines Vaters Straßenbahn(1980)
Meines Vaters Straßenbahn is a German drama following Ralph, a boy growing up in pre-war Dresden as the son of a disciplined streetcar conductor. When the Nazis rise to power and war engulfs the nation, Ralph's ordered middle-class life collapses. His father is conscripted to the front, leaving his mother to raise Ralph and his younger brother Achim alone. As bombing raids intensify and survival becomes the priority, his mother sheds her moral constraints and pursues a pragmatic, desperate will to live. Ralph admires her resilience yet feels betrayed by her affairs, seeing them as infidelity to his father—now a fading memory of childhood innocence. The film traces how war fractures family bonds and forces impossible choices between principle and survival.
