Hadleigh(1969)

Hadleigh is a British television series that aired from 1969 to 1976, developed by Robert Barr as a sequel to his earlier drama Gazette. Gerald Harper stars as James Hadleigh, a benevolent country squire who drives a white Aston Martin V8 and champions local causes across his village and council. His wife, played by Hilary Dwyer, comes from a working-class background, adding domestic tension to his paternalistic worldview. The series balances rural charm with social commentary, following Hadleigh as he navigates village politics and corrects local injustices. With theme music by Alan Moorhouse and later Tony Hatch, the Yorkshire Television production became a ratings success, drawing around 17 million viewers at its peak during the 1970s.
