I'll Fly Away is an American drama series set in the late 1950s and early 1960s South, following Lilly Harper, a Black housekeeper for a district attorney's family. As the civil rights movement gains momentum, Lilly becomes increasingly active in the cause, eventually drawing her employer into the struggle for equality. The series aired on NBC from 1991 to 1993 and earned critical acclaim, winning two Emmy Awards, a Peabody Award, two Golden Globes, and multiple NAACP Image Awards. Despite widespread critical praise, the show struggled in ratings and was canceled after two seasons. A two-hour finale movie, I'll Fly Away: Then and Now, aired on PBS in October 1993 to resolve remaining storylines, drawing parallels to the true story of Emmett Till's murder.
