Created by Jed Mercurio, who brought sharp, observational writing to the medical drama Cardiac Arrest, the show aired on ITV from 1999 to 2001 across three series. It follows the lives and misadventures of working-class families navigating school, romance, and everyday struggles in post-industrial England. The series balances humour with genuine emotional depth, capturing the texture of life in a specific time and place. Mercurio's background as a doctor informed his ear for authentic dialogue and character detail.
