Appare-Ranman! is an anime series set in the late 19th century, following Sorano Appare, a brilliant but socially inept engineer, and Isshiki Kosame, a cautious samurai, who wash ashore between Japan and America with nothing to their names. Desperate to fund their journey home, the unlikely pair enters the Trans-America Wild Race, a grueling cross-country competition from Los Angeles to New York. They navigate the American frontier in a steam-powered car of their own design, facing off against cunning rivals, ruthless bandits, and treacherous terrain. The series blends adventure and comedy as these two mismatched companions rely on each other's strengths—Appare's ingenuity and Kosame's wisdom—to survive the race and claim the prize money that will get them back to Japan.
