Conscience(1994)
Conscience
Conscience is a Hong Kong drama series that follows TV reporter Wei Haiyi as she interviews residents of a cage house, where she meets Ma Zhongbao, a reclusive young man who has spent his life in poverty and lost himself in literature. After accidentally taking his novel, Haiyi becomes fascinated by his story. Her life spirals into darkness when she kills Cham Yourong, a prominent lawyer and secret lover of her mother, in self-defense. Desperate to protect her daughter, Haiyi's mother accepts a bribe from Yourong's wife and testifies against her own child in court. As the case unfolds, Haiyi must navigate a web of corruption, betrayal, and moral compromise, where the line between justice and survival blurs. The series explores themes of poverty, ambition, and the cost of protecting those we love.
