Gate(2015)

Gate is a Japanese military fantasy series that begins when a mysterious portal opens in Tokyo's Ginza district, unleashing monsters, medieval knights, and creatures from another world. The Japanese Defense Force battles back the invaders and seals the gate, but the portal remains open. The Third Reconnaissance Team, led by the unorthodox officer Youji Itami, is sent through to explore the "Special Region" on the other side. There they encounter an elf survivor of a dragon attack who becomes their guide through this dangerous new world. The series blends action, fantasy worldbuilding, and character-driven storytelling as the team navigates both the perils of the Special Region and the geopolitical tensions that emerge from humanity's discovery of an alternate dimension.
