HK 80's(1981)
HK 80's is a Hong Kong sitcom that premiered in 1981 and changed its name annually—from Hong Kong 81 through Hong Kong 86—before being replaced by City Stories. Over its run, the series produced 1,330 episodes, making it the second-longest-running show in Hong Kong television history. Each episode tackled contemporary social issues through sharp satire, skewering society's flaws with humor rooted in everyday life. The ensemble cast of working-class characters—Chen Ji, Mrs. Shun, Uncle Mao, Jue Wu Yin, Miss Su, A Wei, and Ah Kang—became cultural touchstones. Lydia Shum's Mrs. Shun entered the vernacular as shorthand for trend-chasing women, while Lawrence Ng's Chen Ji, a wealth-obsessed stockbroker, embodied Hong Kong's nouveau riche. The show's characters left an indelible mark on local audiences and remain embedded in the city's popular memory.
