Utawarerumono(2006)

Utawarerumono is a fantasy anime series following Hakuoro, a man who awakens with no memory and a mysterious mask fused to his face. Rescued by an elderly woman and her granddaughter Eruruu, he recovers in a remote village populated by people with animal-like ears and tails who worship nature spirits. As Hakuoro adapts to village life, he experiences disturbing visions and learns that a desecrated altar has angered Mutikapa-sama, the forest's guardian deity. The villagers must take desperate action to survive the deity's wrath. Blending mystery, folklore, and character-driven storytelling, Utawarerumono explores themes of identity, belonging, and humanity's relationship with the natural world as Hakuoro uncovers his past and his role in the village's fate.
