Zenkamono(2021)

Zenkamono follows Agawa Kayo, a convenience store worker haunted by her past, who becomes a volunteer probation officer determined to help rehabilitate offenders. Unpaid and driven by civic duty, Kayo takes on her first case: Saito Midori, a volatile accessory shop owner recently released on parole after serving two years for assault and extortion. Under the mentorship of experienced probation officer Takamatsu Naoharu, Kayo navigates the difficult work of guiding Midori toward redemption and reintegration into society. The series explores the personal cost of rehabilitation work, the bonds forged between mentor and mentee, and whether compassion can truly transform those who have lost their way. Grounded in the realities of Japan's criminal justice system, Zenkamono examines second chances with both hope and unflinching honesty.
