Privilege(1990)

Privilege is a provocative experimental film that dissects how ageism, sexism, economic elitism, and racism shape power and identity in modern society. Director Yvonne Rainer constructs a layered critique through unconventional formal techniques: archival footage, video, and film interwoven with superimposed text and a film-within-a-film structure. The work moves fluidly between past and present, blending documentary material with self-reflexive commentary to expose the artificial systems that define empowerment. Rainer's boldly anarchic approach refuses conventional narrative, instead using collage and visual juxtaposition to interrogate how social divisions are culturally ingrained and perpetuated.
