Kati Kati(2016)
Her End Is Just The Beginning
Kati Kati is a poetic fantasy film that follows Kaleche, who awakens in a barren wasteland with no memory of who she is or how she arrived. A group of strangers at a nearby oasis resort deliver the truth: she is dead, and this is the afterlife. Stripped of her earthly memories, Kaleche must piece together her past while confronting the mystery of her own identity. Writer-director Mbithi Masya's debut feature uses this haunting premise to explore personal atonement and redemption, set against the shadow of Kenya's violent history. The film blends magical realism with introspection, offering a dark, meditative reflection on trauma, memory, and the possibility of grace beyond death. Nyokabi Gethaiga anchors the narrative as Kaleche navigates this liminal space between worlds, searching for the fragments of a life she can no longer recall.
