Wiener Blut(1972)

Wiener Blut is an operetta set during the Congress of Vienna in 1814–1815, featuring music by Johann Strauss II. The composer never witnessed its premiere. The story follows Count Balduin Zedlau, an ambassador from the tiny court of Reuss-Schleiz-Greiz, who arrives in Vienna as a married man with a roving eye and the habits of a serial seducer. The operetta unfolds as a traditional farce, built on mistaken identities and romantic entanglements against the backdrop of post-Napoleonic Europe. Strauss's existing compositions form the musical score, though he did not write them specifically for this work. The result is a light, witty exploration of aristocratic intrigue and desire in Vienna's glittering diplomatic circles.
