No Ordinary Protest is a multimedia art project by Mikhail Karikis inspired by Ted Hughes's 1993 novel The Iron Woman. The work centers on a video installation featuring seven-year-old students from Mayflower Primary School in East London as they engage with and discuss the novel's environmental themes. Rather than traditional narrative cinema, Karikis uses the children's perspectives and conversations to explore Hughes's ecological concerns through their own understanding and voices. The project bridges literature, education, and contemporary art practice, turning a classroom discussion into a compelling artistic statement about how young people encounter and interpret environmental ideas in literature.
