Behind Closed Doors(1988)

Behind Closed Doors is a poetic short film that mourns the filmmaker's mother through fragmented dreams, memories, and nightmares. Natural sounds and landscape imagery weave together with spoken diary entries and text to explore how imagination persists in the face of loss. The work draws oblique references to Dante's Inferno, evoking Paolo and Francesca caught in an infernal wind, and reinterprets Raphael's Renaissance painting of the Deposition to suggest an era when death and grief were confronted openly rather than concealed. This meditative piece assembles "a myriad of instances in transit," creating an intimate meditation on mortality and remembrance.
