Heimlich(2017)
Heimlich is an experimental German film that explores the concept of home through three characters adrift in displacement and disconnection. Paris inhabits a space that feels fundamentally unwelcoming, while Serena searches for belonging in unexpected places. The narrative unfolds through conversations and shared moments—drinking, talking, merging—as the characters navigate water, beer, and fragmented memories. A frog's leap punctuates the strange, unsettling atmosphere. The film embraces discomfort and alienation, playing with the German word "Unheimlich" (uncanny) to suggest that home itself may be an illusion. Heimlich operates as a meditation on estrangement and the human need for place, rendered in oblique, poetic imagery that resists conventional storytelling.
