D.C. Follies is a syndicated sitcom that aired from 1987 to 1989, set in a Washington, D.C. bar where bartender Fred Willard presided over puppet caricatures of politicians and celebrities. The show delivered sharp satirical humor, regularly mocking the political process and public figures of the day. Willard was the only regular live actor, but each episode featured a celebrity guest—Martin Mull, Robin Leach, Bob Uecker, and Betty White among them. The format allowed for absurdist moments: Robert Englund appeared as Freddie Krueger, Mike Tyson confronted his own puppet double, and a Christmas special included an unbilled Santa. Inspired by the British series Spitting Image and produced by Sid and Marty Krofft, D.C. Follies struggled to build an audience due to irregular broadcast scheduling across syndicated markets, ultimately limiting its cultural reach.
