Your Hit Parade
Your Hit Parade(1950)
Your Hit Parade is an American music program that aired on radio from 1935 to 1955 and on television from 1950 to 1959. Sponsored by Lucky Strike cigarettes, the show became a cultural institution, featuring rotating orchestras and vocalists who performed the week's most popular songs. The format evolved from a top-15 countdown to a more dramatic presentation, building to the number-one hit with fanfares and theatrical flair. Occasional performances of classic standards, called "Lucky Strike Extras," rounded out each Saturday evening broadcast. Over its 24-year run, Your Hit Parade showcased 19 orchestra leaders and 52 singers and groups, making it essential listening for anyone tracking America's musical tastes during the swing and early rock eras.
