Stanley(1956)

Stanley is a 1950s sitcom starring Buddy Hackett as the titular newsstand operator in a swanky New York City hotel. Carol Burnett plays his girlfriend Celia, while Paul Lynde voices the unseen hotel owner Mr. Fenton, who barks orders from off-camera. The show aired live on NBC during the 1956–1957 season under producer Max Liebman, known for his work on Your Show of Shows. Each episode follows Stanley's misadventures navigating hotel life and his romantic entanglements. The series opens with the memorable line: "You think you've got troubles. Stanley, he's got troubles!" Several episodes survive on kinescope film, offering a glimpse into the live television comedy of the era.
