The Johnny Carson Show is a 1955–56 variety series that launched Johnny Carson's television career. While working as a staff writer on The Red Skelton Show, Carson stepped in as host during a rehearsal and impressed CBS enough to greenlight his own primetime program. The show blended comedy, music, dance, sketches, and monologues in the traditional variety format of the era. Though short-lived, it proved Carson's talent for live performance and introduced characters and bits—including the "Mighty Carson Art Players"—that would later become staples of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. The series marked the beginning of Carson's ascent to late-night television dominance.
