Coal is a series set during the turbulent 1990s that follows a mining family struggling to survive economic collapse. As their industry crumbles and hardship mounts, the family members confront personal crises and fractured relationships while searching for resilience in the face of systemic decline. The show explores how ordinary people endure when everything around them falls apart, capturing the desperation and determination of working-class life during one of Russia's most challenging decades. Through intimate character moments and raw storytelling, Coal examines the bonds that hold families together when survival itself becomes uncertain.
