Sunset(2023)

Sunset is a Japanese drama series following rookie director Hasebe Kaori as she develops a screenplay with screenwriter Kai Chihiro. Their film adapts the Sasazukacho Family Murder Case, a real incident from fifteen years prior in which a reclusive man killed his sister, then set fire to their home, killing his parents in the blaze. The case holds personal weight for Chihiro, who grew up in that same town. As the pair researches the crime to bring it to screen, buried secrets surface—secrets both of them carry. What begins as a creative project becomes an investigation that forces them to confront uncomfortable truths about the tragedy and their own connections to it.
