Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.(1964)
Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. is a sitcom that aired on CBS from 1964 to 1969, spawned from The Andy Griffith Show. Jim Nabors stars as Gomer, a guileless gas-station attendant from Mayberry who enlists in the Marines and clashes with his volatile Gunnery Sergeant, Vince Carter, played by Frank Sutton. The show mines comedy from their mismatched dynamic—Gomer's earnest naïveté against Carter's explosive temperament—while Ronnie Schell rounds out the cast as Gomer's friend Duke Slater. Created by Aaron Ruben and produced alongside Sheldon Leonard, the series ran five seasons and 150 episodes without addressing the Vietnam War, instead focusing squarely on barracks life and the central relationship between recruit and drill sergeant. Gomer Pyle maintained strong ratings throughout its run.
