A Fallen Xian is a period series set during the Republic of China era, following Master Kwan, a cunning fraudster who poses as a Taoist priest. When his schemes invoke the wrath of the immortal Lu Dong-bin, the heavenly being descends to punish him—only to lose his powers and become stranded in the mortal world. Adopting the name Lui Shek, Dong-bin stays close to Kwan to guide him toward redemption while they investigate strange cases in Five Races Town. Their lives intersect with Pak Suet-fa, a local prostitute, drawing all three into escalating trouble. As political upheaval unfolds—with Headman Sun Ching-yee's election and his clash against the corrupt Kam Shi-ho—the town spirals into chaos.
