Sale of the Century is a game show format that debuted in 1969 and became a global phenomenon across multiple countries. The series found its greatest success in Australia, where it ran on weeknights from 1980 to 2001, eventually becoming the nation's longest-running game show. A revival aired in Australia from 2005 to 2009 and in the United States during 2007–2008 under the title Temptation. The format centers on general knowledge trivia where contestants earn money for correct answers and use their winnings to purchase heavily discounted prizes through "Instant Bargains." Long-running champions compete to accumulate enough funds to buy major prizes like trips and cars, with top performers occasionally winning every prize on offer plus a cash jackpot. Australian TV mogul Reg Grundy acquired the format and produced the wildly successful Australian version, which premiered on Nine Network in 1980 and inspired adaptations worldwide.
