Big Brother Mexico is a reality television series that launched on Televisa in 2002, adapting the international Big Brother format created by Dutch production company Endemol. The show follows contestants confined to a house under constant surveillance, a concept that initially shocked Mexican society. The series became a hit, spawning a celebrity edition called Big Brother VIP featuring famous faces from entertainment and politics. The show gained notoriety when Congressman Jorge Kahwagi, minority whip of the Mexican Green Party, left his post to compete, sparking widespread criticism for abandoning his parliamentary duties. Comedian and talk-show host Adal Ramones later parodied the format with his own show, "El Gran Carnal." By 2009, the franchise had expanded to include an All-Stars season, cementing Big Brother Mexico's place in the country's popular culture.
