Calvin and the Colonel(1961)

Calvin and the Colonel is an animated series from 1961 starring Colonel Montgomery J. Klaxon, a cunning fox, and Calvin T. Burnside, a dim-witted bear. The colonel pursues get-rich-quick schemes with Calvin's unwitting help while managing his real estate business, all under the watchful eye of his wife Maggie Belle and her skeptical sister Sue. Their lawyer, Oliver Wendell Clutch, a weasel, navigates the chaos. The series was an animated adaptation of the radio show Amos 'n' Andy, featuring original voice actors Freeman Gosden and Charles Correll. By using animal characters, the creators sidestepped the racial controversies that had plagued the earlier program. Despite low ratings that led to cancellation after two months, the show returned to complete its first season and later found new life through Saturday morning reruns and syndication throughout the 1960s. It was also adapted into a comic book series by Dell Comics.
