Cackling Kitarou(1996)

Cackling Kitarou is an anime series following Kitarou, a ghost who protects humans from malevolent yōkai and evil spirits. Based on Shigeru Mizuki's 1959 manga classic, the show draws from Japanese folklore and the supernatural creatures that populate its world. Kitarou himself belongs to the yōkai class, as do the allies and enemies he encounters. Mizuki's original tale, "Hakaba no Kitarō" (Kitarō of the Graveyard), was rooted in early 20th-century Japanese folk performances. The series has been adapted multiple times across anime, live action, and games since 1968, with new anime versions produced roughly every decade. This 2008 anime adaptation aired on Fuji TV's noitaminA programming block, bringing Mizuki's iconic supernatural stories to a new generation of viewers.
