Il peccato e la vergogna is an Italian drama set in 1930s Rome, following Nito Valdi, a volatile ex-convict working for a local crime boss. When he meets the beautiful Carmen, his obsession with her spirals into something darker and more dangerous. Carmen is pregnant with Giancarlo's child—heir to the prominent Fontamara family—but Nito's fixation becomes relentless. As fascism rises and Nito joins the Blackshirts, his psychological instability intensifies. Meanwhile, the Fontamaras discover their Jewish heritage, forcing them to flee Italy to escape persecution from men like Valdi. The series weaves together Carmen and Nito's destructive entanglement with the Fontamaras' desperate fight for survival during one of history's darkest periods.
