Pardon the Expression is a British sitcom that aired on ITV from 1965 to 1966. A spin-off from the hugely popular soap Coronation Street, the series follows Leonard Swindley, the former manager of a fashion store, as he navigates his new role as deputy manager at the department store Dobson and Hawks. Swindley must contend with his demanding boss Ernest Parbold and the everyday absurdities of retail life. The ensemble cast includes Betty Driver as the canteen lady Mrs Edgeley and Joy Stewart as the boss's secretary Miss Sinclair. The show proved successful enough to spawn its own spin-off, Turn out the Lights, in 1967. Pardon the Expression captures the gentle humour and character-driven comedy that made Coronation Street a cultural phenomenon, offering viewers a behind-the-scenes look at department store management in 1960s Britain.
