World's End(2011)
World's End is an Icelandic series set in 1992 at Heimsendir, an isolated psychiatric hospital outside Reykjavík. When elementary school teacher Einar is committed against his will following a nervous breakdown, he quickly becomes disillusioned with the institution's practices. Charismatic and observant, Einar rallies fellow patients to his cause, exposing the hospital's failings and inspiring hope for change. What begins as quiet resistance escalates into open rebellion. Einar and the patients stage a takeover, seizing control of Heimsendir and declaring it an independent state—a utopia designed by and for the mentally ill. The series explores themes of institutional power, human dignity, and whether idealism can survive reality when the vulnerable are finally given agency.
