Market in Honey Lane(1967)
Market in Honey Lane is a British soap opera that aired on ATV between 1967 and 1969. Set in an East London street market, the series follows the lives of traders and customers in a cockney-inflected drama created by Louis Marks. Initially broadcast weekly from September 1968, it shifted to twice-weekly afternoon slots and was shortened to Honey Lane. The cast included John Bennett, Michael Golden, Ray Lonnen, Peter Birrel, Brian Rawlinson, Pat Nye, Basil Henson, and Anna Wing, who later found fame in EastEnders nearly two decades later. Recorded at ATV Elstree—the same studio complex that would eventually house EastEnders—the show captured working-class life with warmth and humour. Only 13 of the original 91 episodes survive in the archives today, making Market in Honey Lane a rare glimpse into British television's golden age of regional soap opera drama.
