The Late Show(1988)

The Late Show is a British arts magazine series that aired on BBC Two at 11.15pm, occupying the late-night slot directly after Newsnight. Commissioned by BBC Two Controller Alan Yentob and produced by Michael Jackson, the programme drew on earlier BBC arts formats like Monitor and Late Night Line-Up. After The Old Grey Whistle Test ended, The Late Show became one of television's primary platforms for live music performances. The early seasons featured a Friday-night round-table discussion hosted by Clive James, though this element was dropped after season two. The series attracted major artists including Van Morrison, Leonard Cohen, Public Enemy, Joni Mitchell, The Stone Roses, Dick Dale, and Jeff Buckley, presenting their work live or pre-recorded.
