Roleless(2022)

Roleless is a Japanese film about Miyamatsu, a cable-car operator who moonlights as a film extra. For years, he has inhabited borrowed identities on set, playing minor characters while his own life remains untouched. Through these fleeting roles, he has avoided confronting who he really is. When circumstance forces him to abandon the safety of performance, Miyamatsu must finally reckon with the authentic life he abandoned long ago. The film explores themes of identity and displacement with quiet introspection, examining how we hide behind masks and the cost of living as a perpetual outsider to our own existence.
