A Son of Satan(1924)
The story of a haunted house
A Son of Satan is a 1924 silent race film directed and produced by Oscar Micheaux. The story follows a man who accepts a wager to spend the night in a haunted house, leading to a series of dark misadventures. Shot across The Bronx and Roanoke, Virginia, the film faced immediate censorship battles. New York authorities objected to its depiction of graphic violence, including animal cruelty and murder. Virginia censors condemned references to miscegenation as offensive to Southern audiences. At least one state banned it based solely on the title. No print survives today; A Son of Satan is considered a lost film, surviving only through historical records of its controversial reception and Micheaux's pioneering work in independent Black cinema.
