Kummeli(1991)
Kummeli is a Finnish comedy series that aired on YLE between 1991 and 1995. Created by Heikki Silvennoinen, Timo Kahilainen, and Heikki Hela from Tampere, the show built a cult following through absurdist sketches featuring eccentric characters. The core ensemble were musicians first and actors second, which shaped the show's distinctive blend of comedy and musical performances. Episodes mixed standalone skits with running storylines that resolved by episode's end. After a successful three-part pilot, Kummeli earned its own slot on YLE's channel 2 with a revamped format. The crew, including notable members like Olli Keskinen and later Heikki Vihinen, continued making sporadic TV appearances and live performances after the series ended. Their production company, Porkkana Ryhmä, remained active in Finnish entertainment throughout the decade.
