The Cowboys(1974)

The Cowboys is a Western series that aired on ABC from February to May 1974, adapted from the 1972 John Wayne film. Set in 1870s New Mexico, the show follows seven boys working on a ranch, starring Jim Davis, Diana Douglas, Moses Gunn, A Martinez, Robert Carradine, and Clay O'Brien. Producer David Dortort, known for Bonanza and The High Chaparral, helmed the series. The Cowboys initially ran as an hour-long program before ABC cut it to a half-hour format, a change that failed to attract viewers. The show was cancelled after just four months on air, unable to find an audience despite its pedigree and experienced production team.
