Dante(1960)

Dante is a short-lived NBC adventure drama starring Howard Duff as Willie Dante, a former gambler running the Inferno, a San Francisco nightclub. Alan Mowbray co-stars as Stewart Styles, the maitre d', alongside Tom D'Andrea and Mort Mills. Willie claims to have left his criminal past behind, but his old associates—including Stewart and Biff—keep the temptation alive. Though the club operates legitimately, neither the police nor the mob believe Willie's reformation is genuine. His former underworld connections regularly surface at the Inferno, attempting to pull him back into crime. The character previously appeared in eight episodes of Dick Powell's Four Star Playhouse, where Willie ran an illegal gambling operation in the club's back room. Blake Edwards, who created the radio drama Richard Diamond, Private Detective, initially wrote those episodes. Mowbray was the only regular to carry over to the series.
