New Beginning(2013)

New Beginning is a Portuguese drama series following the Mendonça family's harrowing escape from Angola during the 1975 civil war. Álvaro, a successful businessman, and his wife Maria flee with their teenage children Ana and João as violence erupts across the country. Alongside over half a million others, they abandon their home and board an air convoy bound for Lisbon—the largest exodus in Portuguese history. Arriving in the unfamiliar metropolis, the family moves into a cramped apartment with Álvaro's brother-in-law Joaquim and sister Natália. As the summer heat intensifies, the Mendonças struggle to rebuild their shattered lives in a country most knew only from photographs. The series captures their fight for stability and belonging amid displacement, cultural shock, and the weight of loss.
