My Uncle Silas(2001)

My Uncle Silas is a period drama set in 1901 Bedfordshire, following a middle-class schoolboy left in the care of his eccentric great-uncle while his parents work abroad. Uncle Silas, a spirited sixty-year-old, lives by his own rules—a womaniser, drinker, and poacher who refuses to grow old gracefully. With gentle nudging from his exasperated housekeeper Mrs Betts, he occasionally takes on odd jobs to make ends meet. The series captures the clash between the boy's proper upbringing and his uncle's reckless, free-spirited ways, set against the backdrop of rural England at the turn of the century. It's a warm-hearted portrait of an unlikely summer and the bond that forms between two generations worlds apart.
