Samurai Banners(2007)
Samurai Banners is a Japanese historical drama series that aired throughout 2007 as the 46th NHK Taiga drama. The title references an actual war banner used by the legendary daimyo Takeda Shingen, inspired by Sun Tzu's The Art of War. Each of the four characters—wind, woods, fire, and mountain—represents a principle of warfare: "Swift as the Wind, Silent as a Forest, Fierce as Fire and Immovable as a Mountain." The series explores the life and military campaigns of Takeda Shingen during Japan's turbulent Sengoku period, when regional warlords vied for supremacy. With its grounding in historical fact and classical military philosophy, Samurai Banners offers an authentic portrait of ambition, strategy, and honor in feudal Japan.
