On the Air(1992)
In the 1950s, a group of television performers attempt to put together a live variety program and often find disastrous results.
On the Air is a 1957-set comedy series following the cast and crew of the Lester Guy Show as they scramble to pull off a live television broadcast for the Zoblotnick Broadcasting Co. network. Lester Guy, consumed by jealousy over his co-star Betty Hudson's unexpected popularity, plots to sabotage her career—but his schemes collide with the chaos of live broadcasting. The series captures the frantic energy and backstage drama of early television, blending dark humor with the unpredictability of going on air without a net. Created by David Lynch, who wrote two of the seven episodes, On the Air explores ambition, rivalry, and the madness behind the scenes of a struggling network show.
