Road No. 1 is a Korean war epic that traces six decades of history along Route 1, the highway that connected North and South Korea during the 1950 outbreak of war. Lee Jang Woo, a peasant's son, joins the military to fund his childhood love Soo Yeon's medical education, rising to become a decorated officer. Believing him dead, Soo Yeon becomes engaged to fellow officer Tae Ho. When Jang Woo returns on their wedding eve, the reunion is brief and anguished—the war's eruption forces him to fight alongside his rival. As the conflict deepens, Jang Woo struggles to reclaim his love while duty repeatedly tears them apart.
