Mad Maria(2005)

Mad Maria is a Brazilian series set in the early 20th century, split between two worlds: the brutal construction of a railway through the Amazon rainforest and the opulent society of Rio de Janeiro's elite. Young pianist Consuelo travels to the Amazon with her husband, but a tragic accident leaves her widowed and lost in the jungle, gravely ill. Joe Caipuna, a local indigenous man, rescues her and brings her to a railroad workers' camp, where she meets Dr. Richard Finnegan. Both men fall for Consuelo as she recovers, but the harsh realities of frontier life and the demands of the railway project keep her and Richard apart. The series weaves together romance, survival, and the collision of civilizations against the backdrop of one of history's most ambitious and destructive engineering ventures.
