Facing the Truth
Facing the Truth(2006)
Facing the Truth is a British documentary series that brings together victims and perpetrators of Northern Ireland's Troubles in unprecedented confrontations. Presented by Fergal Keane and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the three-part programme draws inspiration from South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The second episode features IRA member Joe Doherty meeting relatives of a soldier killed in the Warrenpoint ambush. In the final instalment, Milltown Massacre gunman Michael Stone faces the family of Dermot Hackett, a Catholic delivery driver he was convicted of killing in 1987. Stone, despite earlier admitting to the murder, claims he was withdrawn from the operation after planning it. The series explores reconciliation and accountability in the aftermath of decades of conflict.
