The Queen and I(2008)

The Queen and I is a documentary that brings together filmmaker Nahid Persson and Queen Farah, widow of Iran's last Shah, for an intimate conversation spanning decades of exile. Both women fled Iran after the 1979 revolution that toppled the monarchy, yet their lives took vastly different paths. Persson, who left as a young political dissident, and Farah, stripped of her throne and fortune, meet as equals to reflect on loss, displacement, and their complicated relationships to a homeland they can no longer call home. The film explores how two women from opposite sides of Iran's revolutionary divide found unexpected common ground through shared experience of exile and the passage of time.
